NEEDS REST: Dorothy McGregor
A CHARITY leader has received ‘get well soon’ wishes from community figures after she was taken into hospital.
Maundy Grange founder Dorothy McGregor was taken into hospital last week after suffering from exhaustion and dehydration.
Figures in the community are wishing the 80-year-old a speedy recovery.
Charity workers say the renowned founder of Maundy Relief is recovering and said to be doing well at Royal Blackburn Hospital.
The nun, who founded the charity for the homeless, in Abbey Street, is at the facility seven days a week, from early morning to late at night.
Hyndburn Council leader Miles Parkinson, oppositon leader Peter Britcliffe, and MP Graham Jones have said they wish the commuity worker a speedy recovery.
Manager at Maundy Relief Helen Bishop said that a management system, to support Dorothy, had been in place some time, but Dorothy had retained an active role.
She said: “We are getting updates which say she is comfortable and doing well.
“She just really needed the respite. She was exhausted and dehydrated. In hospital, she will get the rest she needs. She won’t rest while she is here because she never stops when people need help.
“So the hospital is trying to build her back up.
"She looked exhausted and we said she needed a rest, and then she became ill. People do love her and everyone is wishing her well and a speedy recovery.”
Coun Parkinson said: “She has worked relentlessly for those most in need in the borough. Our thoughts go out to her, and we hope she gets well very soon.”
Coun Britcliffe added: “It is not surprising she is suffering from exhaustion as I don’t know anybody who puts themselves out more for other people.”
MP Mr Jones added: “Dorothy puts in an awful lot of hours supporting those most in need. She gives of herself because she believes in her work passionately. I hope she will take the time she needs to have a good rest.”
