ENTREPRENEUR and scooter enthusiast Ian Daintith has an insatiable appetite for inventing things.

Now the man who earned a £200,000 investment thumbs-up from Deborah Meaden and Theo Paphitis when he appeared on the Dragons Den TV show has been at it again.

Culcheth based Ian, aged 41, and his partner, Amanda Baxendale, are both avid fans of classic scooters, and now the man who is a magician with electronics has created a device that allows people to combine the best of the past with the latest gadgetry.

That's done by providing a power source from the kick-start only, battery-less machines of the classic era.

Ian said: "The classic scooter scene is growing, with riders spending time and money restoring scooters from the 1960s and 1970s. Nostalgia around the scooters is moving into music and fashion, and the mods are making a come-back!"

He explained how today’s riders want to retain the simple elegance of the scooters of the 60s and 70s but also want to keep connected to modern gadgets.

"It’s irritating getting lost on a run out when your satnav runs flat but the Modcharger™ I've developed can power any gadget from your classic scooter that you can charge from the cigarette lighter in your car, without adding a battery to your scooter or replacing the electrical system. Just kick start, and charge!" he said.

Ian rides a Series 3 Lambretta TV175 and Amanda has a 1968 GP200 Lambretta. One day he realised he needed to charge his iPhone while on the move so he set to and designed and built his Modcharger which is selling like hot cakes around the world at £19.99 a time.

In September 2005 Ian co-founded Coin Metrics Limited and the unique SITEGuardian™ system which provided gaming and casino operations with live information on the performance of console based gaming machines which impressed the Dragons Den.

Ian sold his business in 2009 at a £1.2M valuation but his entrepreneurial talent continued with Modcharger being his latest invention.
