CAMPAIGNERS are hoping to reopen the public toilets at Lilford Park.
More than 750 have signed a petition to make the facilities accessible to the public and The Friends of Lilford Park (FOLP) are hoping that they can secure funding to help their latest project.
A weekend of family fun at the beginning of June was successful in drumming up support for the re-commissioning of the toilets and FOLP has, backed by Neil Pont's Fun Fair Rides, refurbished the park gates, which date back to 1957, and created a new five-a-side football pitch last year.
The next event will be "helping hands" and supported by forty members of staff at Barclay's they will clean up the park, armed with brushes and jet washes, on Friday, July 12.
FOLP is hoping to install outdoor gym equipment in Lilford Park for fitness enthusiasts and create a wildlife education centre for school children in the rangers' hut as well as adapt the children's play area for youngsters of all ages and abilities.
