Representatives of the Atherton branches of the Royal British Legion and the Royal Navy Association are in the final stages of putting missing names on tthe town's war memorial.
Branch officials are aware that at least in the region of 20 names are absent from the Roll of Honour from the second World War and also from other conflicts such as Northern Ireland, Iraq and Malaya.
Now they are appealing for information from anyone who believes their relative's name should be included.
"Once we have all the names they will be submitted to Wigan Council who will arrange for their inclusion on the memorial," said RBL branch spokesman Bob Splaine.
"The closing date for this year will be September so that we can try nems added in time for the November Remembrance service." Contact RBL branch secretary Peter Powell on 01942 791319 or Mr Splaine 01942 874320. You can also attend the RNA and RBL branch meetings held at the Atherton Arms, Tyldesley Road Atherton on the second Thursday of each month at 8 pm.
