LOWTON couple Norma and Raymond Furnival from Lowton have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary, 65 years after she plucked up the courage to ask him to be her dance partner.
They were both 17 when they met in their native Liverpool and five years later, on August 22, 1953, they married in the city.
The couple, who have lived most of their lives close to St Luke’s Church in Lowton have daughters Denise and Joanne and a son, Gary, plus five grandchildren.
Ray was a manager and later food buyer at Lewis’s department stores in Liverpool and Manchester and Norma worked as a secretary.
“They read the Leigh Journal every week and will be thrilled to get a mention in its pages,” said their grand daughter Laura Whelan.
