SOCCER players from Atherton Athletic and Sutton Junction amateur clubs dug deep to help Headway, the brain injury support charity.
Their fundraising game at Atherton Town’s ground, combined with the donations from sponsored runners in the recent Manchester 10k event, boosted Headway funds by £500.
The event was organised by Atherton Parklee School staff member Wayne Hampson in memory of his mum, Margaret, who passed away at the age of 55 in 2010 following a brain aneurysm.
Atherton father-of-two Wayne is grateful to the teams who competed, referee David Jackson, Atherton Town FC, Shaun Lynch, Gerald Butler and Brett Hunt and Tony Hurst senior and junior at Atherton George FC for the loan of playing kits.
“I would like to thank Wayne for all his efforts and kindness and continued support of Headway,” said Headway Leigh branch shop manager Jan Naylor.
