A BULLET has been found after shots were fired in Atherton yesterday, Wednesday.
Police were called to Coronation Avenue, Hag Fold estate following reports that shots had been fired at around 10.20pm last night and carried out a number of enquiries.
No injuries were reported but the police were informed at 10.30am today, Thursday, that a bullet had been found in the door of a Fiat Punto on the avenue.
Detective Chief Inspector Howard Millington said: "We are at the early stages of this investigation and it would therefore be too early to speculate as to what may have happened.
"However, I do want to say that we are determined to establish the full facts and get to the bottom of what happened and are working tirelessly to do this.
"Somebody going about their business could have killed or seriously injured as a result of this incident, so we need to find the person responsible for the shooting.”
A number of detailed on-going enquiries, including a forensic recovery, are currently taking place and a section of nearby Spa Road is closed to traffic.
DCI Millington continued: "We would ask that anyone with any information that may assist this enquiry, including witnesses who may have seen suspicious behaviour last night, to get in touch.
"We understand that the community will be concerned, particularly as incidents of this nature are so rare. As such, patrols are being stepped up in the area and officers are on hand to address any concerns people may have."
Anyone with any information should call police on 0161 856 7225 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
