Earthworks begin for guided busway project

EARTHWORKS began this week for the guided busway project between Leigh and Ellenbrook.
Residents affected by the work received letters from Transport for Greater Manchester informing them that from September 2, the work would step up a notch.
Major earthwork and site drainage has begun and the next 18 months will see an increase in site activity and heavy machinery present on the site.
Richard Borden, the leader of Tyldesley Meadows Action Group, said: “I think it shows a callous disregard for the wishes of local people who are fighting hard to save an area of natural beauty and rich habitat.
“We are still hopeful that we can use the remaining limited time to take this to arbitration and are confident that the process will conclude that there were numerous issues with the planning application.”
Up to now, the works have focused on minor works such a site clearance and erecting fences.
