A PLAYGROUP run by two parents has been voted one of Netmums' favourite toddler groups.

Elaine Farmer and Alex Sofield have been running Parkside Baby and Toddler Group in Golborne for two years.

They were awarded the accolade for the Bolton and Wigan region thanks to parent’s reviews on the UK's biggest parenting website.

Elaine said: “It was great to win because it was decided on reviews from parents and how they felt about the group. We depend on word of mouth really but people love coming here so we must be doing something right.

“It can be very daunting as a parent to actually going somewhere without a friend. Some of the mums feel they can come here on their own because we try to be as friendly as possible with everyone that comes.”

Elaine and Alex are both mothers with toddler age children and run the group, which depends on donations for toys, on a voluntary basis.

“I’ve been to other groups and you just sit there and nobody speaks to you but we have a four volunteers, some of which don’t have children, who help out so we have time to talk to everyone,” Elaine said.

The group meets every Monday and Thursday during term time from 9.15am until 11.15am at Parkside rugby club on Rivington Avenue.

Elaine added: “We have to pay for the function room at the club but apart from that all the money we make goes back to the children, to organizing christmas parties and entertainment.

“We charge £2 a session and sometimes we can’t cover the cost of the function room so we just want to keep going really.”
