Bedford High welcomes new head teacher

BEDFORD High has started its new school year with a new head teacher.
Helen Phillips is on a mission to help the Leigh pupils flourish and reach their full potential.
The mother-of-one follows in the footsteps of Bedford’s long-serving head teacher Stephen Preston after he lost his battle against cancer last year.
Mrs Phillips said: “I am delighted to be here at Bedford High School as the new head teacher and it is with a real sense of pride that I am joining a school which continues to go from strength to strength.
“Like everyone at Bedford, I believe in giving all our students the opportunity to develop their talents to the full and we expect everyone to work very hard in order to achieve this.
Mrs Phillips’ first official duty was to welcome new year seven starters to the school and to promote an upcoming open evening that is being advertised across the backs of 30 Stagecoach buses.
The event is for all parents and carers of prospective students to come and see the Manchester Road school, meet the staff and the new head teacher.
She said: “We want all of our students to flourish and to strive to always achieve their personal best.
“I believe we have an obligation to equip our students for the demands of the 21st century and to allow them to take their place in a society where the only certainty is constant change.
“With high quality teaching and an innovative curriculum we will help our students to develop the skills they will require in an increasingly digital world and open their eyes to the possibilities available to them.”
The open evening takes place on September 25 with a welcome from Mrs Phillips at 6.30pm and again at 7.30pm.
