Changes to children's centres confirmed
3:30pm Sunday 29th September 2013 in NW
CHANGES to children’s centres in the borough will be introduced in November.
Despite a consultation that began in June showing residents were happy with the services they received, budget cuts have forced Wigan Council’s hand.
All twenty sites will remain open but will work differently and more efficiently to take the changing needs of families and reduced budgets into consideration.
The new model will allow centres to work together to meet the needs of the population and will involve pooling resources and giving centres a particular specialism in key areas.
More than 600 people gave their opinions about the proposed changes and the responses show that they are generally happy with the services currently offered and are keen to retain local, accessible and high quality services.
