DOG owners were offered behaviour advice at the launch of Jade's Campaign.

Jo Pay is a dog trainer and has been drafted in for Jade’s Campaign to help owners deal with their dogs’ behaviour issues.

She stressed the importance of communicating with a dog and knowing what different breeds need.

She said: “We need to see dogs that are better focused on their owners and better communication which can be done through training.

Consistency is very important and understanding the breed of the dog that you have.

“A lot of people get particular breeds but they don’t really know what they have been bred to do.”

Jo also believes that socialising dogs from an early age is essential to preventing some of the main behaviour problems that they are prone to.

She said: “I start it from before the puppies have even finished vaccinations. We have puppy parties where we bring them together and introduce them to children.

“We get puppies mixing with all the things that their owners take for granted but are not the norm for your puppy. The more you get them socialising, the more able your dog will be to cope.

“Jade’s mum and dad are very brave to be here. I think this whole campaign to promote education and more responsible dog ownership is very valuable.”
