LEASES on some cremation memorial tablets at Leigh Cemetery are up for renewal.
Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, which manages the sites on behalf of Wigan Council, is writing to all families affected to outline the options available.
Leases can be renewed for either 20 or 30 years, and a 12-month payment plan is available for those unable to pay a lump sum.
A WLCT spokesman said: “We are doing everything we can to support families whose leases are due for renewal and would encourage people to contact us if they need any clarification or assistance through the process.”
A 20 year lease costs £240 payable as a lump sum or 12 monthly payments of £20.
A free service is being offered to recover ashes and scatter them on the scatterbed at the Leigh Cemetery for anyone who does not wish to renew their lease while tablets and name plaques will also be passed on to families at no cost.
