EXPLORER Scouts are spreading their wings with a move to a new home and an exciting trip to Serbia.
The Bent and Bongs unit, currently based in Tyldesley, will now also hold their meetings at the Atherton Community High School in Hamilton Street. There they will learn practical skills such as online safety and map reading and prepare for a full programme of adventurous activities such as kayaking, climbing, orienteering and archery.
Leader Gordon Robinson explained: "A lot of the young people in the group are from families who maybe can't afford to take them on holiday so it's great to be able to take get them outside on trips and activities both locally and internationally.
"They absolutely love coming here; they turn up every week without fail and love all the activities we do with them. We're trying to enrich the children and help them in their personal development.
“CV and University applications stand out above the rest as soon Scouting is mentioned."
Group members will attend the Serbian Jamboree in 2014, an international event attended by scouts from all over the world. For 10 days Scouts will live together, experience each other’s cultures, take part in various activities and have an amazing adventure.
Bent & Bongs Explorer Scouts meet on Sundays from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Lilford District Scout Headquarters, Shuttle Street, Tyldesley. From November 7 they will meet on Thursdays from 7pm to 8pm at Atherton Community High School.
Enthusiastic 14-18 year olds are invited to join them. More details from email@example.com or follow them on twitter @bentnbongsesu jamboree
