A SLIMMER has celebrated her weight loss by tackling Mount Vesuvius - half an hour faster than she climbed it five years ago.
Claire Mountford from Leigh began to gain weight after starting work in an office and losing her mum before she joined Slimming World in 2008.
Since then she has lost three stone and four pounds and become a Slimming World consultant.
She said: “I remember looking up knowing it was going to be a struggle. Fifty minutes might sound like an achievement but I was so upset when I reached the top because I was the youngest in the group and was last to reach the top.
“I knew I was a little unfit but I really didn’t realise just how much weight I had put on until we looked over the holiday pictures on our return”
In July this year Claire completed 1000 metre hike in very hot and humid conditions again but this time being the first in the group to the top in a time of 20 minutes.
“The time taken was not what was important. What I wanted was to feel fitter and healthier in doing it which I absolutely did,” Claire said.
