Have your say on rent changes

TENANTS’ opinions about changes to how their rent is paid are wanted.
The council are considering a proposal that would see rent payments paid over 52 weeks of the year, instead of 48, in a bid to help council tenants budget.
Social housing tenants are being asked to have their say on the new agreement before it is put before councillors in December.
Peter Layland, assistant director of housing at Wigan Council, said: “The change has been prompted by the government’s welfare reforms. We think moving to this new rent collection system will make it easier for tenants to cope with these changes and avoid getting into rent arrears.”
All council tenants will be sent information about the changes and consultation documents to fill in during early November. They will have 28 days to respond either online or via a freepost address.
