AN APPEAL to help relocate a poorly treated polar bear from a zoo in Mexico has received a welcome boost from primary school pupils.
The reception class at Westleigh St Paul’s C of E Primary School in Leigh found out about the terrible conditions that Yupi, a 22-year-old polar bear, is living in during a class topic about the arctic animals.
They decided to hold a special fundraising day on November 27 for the save Yupi appeal to help relocate her to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
Reception teacher Kate Linge said: “The children decided they could have a non-uniform day and make biscuits and cakes to sell to the other children. At the end of their tremendous effort, they managed to raise £57.56, an amazing amount when you think they are only four and five years old.”
