LOWTON High School emerged victorious in the annual Wigan and Leigh College inter-schools quiz challenge.

Teams of five battled it out, answering questions on a wide range of subjects including mathematics science and art at the event which was held at the college’s sixth form Centre in Leigh.

Last year’s winners Golborne High School returned to try to defend their title while Westleigh High School and Bedford High School also took part.

Gemma Webster, school liaison co-ordinator, said: “The competition proved extremely popular last year, and we had schools signing up to take part this year before we had even announced the competition was going ahead.

“The idea behind the quiz challenge is to encourage youngsters to broaden their experiences and to allow them to take part in a fun competition aimed at recognising their talents.”
