LEIGH Centurions have paid tribute to ‘a genuine honourable man’ who worked as a photographer for the club.

Maurice Jones, who had provided photography services to the club for many years, sadly died on Monday, December 30, after a long illness.

He could regularly be spotted on a match day running up and down the touch line to capture some fantastic photos that featured regularly in the match day programme and the club website.

Leigh Centurions Director of Football Derek Beaumont said: “This is a very sad day for Leigh Centurions and our thoughts are with Maurice's family.

“For as long as I can remember Maurice has been capturing the photographic moments for the club and he always acquired the best action shots.

"I am personally saddened as I had a good relationship with Maurice from his generous time entering the then Hilton Park suite to take pictures of the sponsors receiving their presentations from the man of the match.

“Maurice was a genuine honourable man who's talents and friendly nature will be sorely missed by everyone associated with the club."

The club intends to hold a minute's silence at the Wigan friendly in January in Maurice's honour.
