PUPILS at an Accrington primary school make good progress despite low starting points, Ofsted has found.
Inspectors who visited St Peter’s CofE Primary School, in Cartmel Avenue, rated the school ‘good’ overall and said there had been improvements since the last inspection in 2011.
Lead inspector Neil Dixon said in a report: “Teaching is consistently good and standards of attainment are rising. Pupils are polite and welcoming and the caring environment in the school helps pupils to work and play well together. Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is promoted very well. The school is moving forward at a good pace.”
He added that the school was not yet outstanding because when children were all working together, activities were sometimes too difficult for some, teaching did not consistently challenge the most-able pupils to do their very best and pupils did not check and evaluate their work often enough.
