A HOUSE in Bacup was given a makeover when it appeared on a property renovation television series.

The dilapidated, traditional two-bedroom terrace house in Stanley Mount, off Greensnook Lane, featured on Homes Under the Hammer on BBC One. The house was bought at auction by Andy and Russ, business partners who run a property developing company, for just £20,000.

Before snapping up the property, the pair offered the former owner £26,000 to buy it from him, but were refused and followed it to auction.

In just over six weeks, the developers transformed the ‘outdated’ house into a home an investor then bought from them for £65,000.

Presenter Lucy Alexander described the property as ‘a great first-time buyer’s investment, or family home, in a historical town with plenty of character’.

She said: “The houses in this conservation area have special and historical interest, as they are in one of the best preserved cotton towns in England.”

Russ, who has a background in construction and runs the development side of the business, said: “We’re expecting to spend around £15,000.

“We’ll get our team of builders working on it and it should be done in six weeks.”

When the newly renovated home was unveiled, complete with freshly painted magnolia walls, newly carpeted floors, and a breakfast bar in the kitchen, Claire Ashworth, of Duckworths Estate Agents in Rishton, said: “It’s a lot better than last time I visited it. Everything’s been improved.”

Scott Riley of Clifford, Smith Sutcliffe in Burnley, said: “It’s a nice neat and tidy house, and they’ve done a good job.”
