PEOPLE struggling with high energy prices could slash the cost of their bills by signing up to a new savings scheme.

Wigan Council has joined forces with other Greater Manchester authorities to launch an energy switching scheme that could cut fuel costs for thousands of households across the borough.

Everyone who registers will be given a range of different options to save money and some residents may be able to save up to £250 a year by switching energy suppliers.

Lord Peter Smith, Leader of Wigan Council, said: “As we all know the cost of living has reached all time highs recently and it is important that our residents seek out new ways of saving money.

“The council aims to help residents to do this whenever possible and the energy switch scheme is definitely an opportunity for residents to make valuable savings.”
