East Lancashire hoax 999 caller on 'last chance' to avoid jail

The Bolton News: Pauline Louise Green falsely claimed there had been an assault on her by her partner Pauline Louise Green falsely claimed there had been an assault on her by her partner

A 54-YEAR-OLD woman who repeatedly makes false reports to the emergency services was told she was being given a ‘very last chance’ to stop offending and avoid prison.

Blackburn magistrates heard Pauline Louise Green had been banned, under the terms of an Anti-Social Behaviour Order, from making 999 calls unless there was danger to life, or risk of serious injury.

But she twice called the emergency number, falsely claiming there had been an assault on her by her partner.

Green, of Meadow Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to two charges of breaching the ASBO.

She was made subject to community supervision for 12 months, and ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge.

Catherine Allan, prosec-uting, said the ASBO had been made in November 2012, and there had already been several breaches.

“When she makes these bogus calls, she diverts the services away from genuine emergencies,” said Miss Allan.

“It costs a considerable amount of money to respond to a 999 call and, in her case, they are always for non-existent problems.”

Paul Duxbury, defending, said the phone calls had all been made after she had been drinking.

He said Green and her partner were both aware of their problems, and were trying to help each other.

“She knows that when the police attend they could be dealing with other things,” said Mr Duxbury.

“She is aware of what she has done and bitterly reg-rets it.”

Even if it does cost the taxpayer I'm sure most won't mind to make a example and send a message out to scumbags like this.

I used to work in the Blackburn BT call centre which is responsible for connecting callers to the appropriate emergency services. Often serial offenders would make calls in excess of 20 per night. In fact there were times when such callers could tie up several operators simultaneously as each operator has various procedures to adhere to. It is my belief that in these situations where seconds count, people should receive punitive fines and then prison if they continue to put people at risk. Imagine if you are someone you love were having an heart attack and you were unable to get through to the Ambulance Service because of such selfish stupidity, to me any death should be classed as manslaughter if malicious 999's are a contributing factor.

"Pauline Louise Green had been banned, under the terms of an Anti-Social Behavior Order, from making 999 calls unless there was danger to life, or risk of serious injury."

So:

A. They give her a ASBO which was pointless because that's the rules for anybody ringing 999.
B. Having give her the ASBO (meaning they then at least had even more power if she committed the crime again) they didn't do anything but slap her on the wrist.

She might be burning tax payers money but so are the courts for being soft on this total nutcase and dragging it out. Prison from day 1 would have been cheaper all round!

She's had the ASBO, now lock her up. ASBOs are supposed to be the last chance, not the second-to-last chance, or third-to-last chance or whatever chance some idiot judge sees fit.
