A YOUNG fundraiser is going that extra mile to help fight cancer.

Lucy Tranter, of South Avenue, Leigh, is only 22 but wants to do all she can for charity, as part of a 'bucket list' way of life that has encouraged her to take an active approach to charity work in the past year.

She has organised an event with live music and a raffle and, to top it all off, she will be shaving her hair to raise money for cancer charities.

"I've been trying to do a lot of charity work and other things as part of a bucket list, if you like," she said.

"Last year I did the Race for Life and got other people to join me and it went really well, but this year I wanted to step it up a little and do something that would grab a lot of attention and get a lot more money raised.

"I have quite long hair, halfway down my back, and because my hair is so long more people seem to want to sponsor me which is fantastic.

"I am a little nervous about shaving it off but I have wanted to do it for years, so I am actually quite excited to finally get the chance.

I have known a few people who have had, or have, cancer but overall I just want to be that person who makes the difference."

The event will have live music from three local bands The Glassguns, Nobody Hero and Remnant at the 180 Club on Railway Road, in Leigh, where Lucy is a member of the bar staff.

The event is on March 14, at 9pm, but the club will be open from 6pm and it is free to enter in exchange for a small donation to the charity.
