YOUNG volunteers have transformed the gardens of a home for autistic children.

Members of Leigh Team 34 have revitalised the gardens at Landgate House on Wensleydale Road, Leigh, and to fund the materials for it they held a bag packing day at Tesco and secured donations from businesses such as B&Q, Boydell's and Moran's Trophies.

The group took on the charity project as part of a 16-week course created by the Prince’s Trust and Groundwork.

Twenty-year-old Josh Purnell, from Atherton, said: “We wanted to help autistic children so they could go out and experience different activities and senses in a safe and secure environment.

"The project has helped us show that not all young people are the same and that given the chance we can do something really good not just for ourselves but for the community itself.”
