BUDDING bakers from a Tyldesley school have proved they have what it takes at an inter-school competition.
Year nine and 10 pupils from Fred Longworth High School were crowned school of the year at the Great Wigan Schools Bake Off final at Haigh Hall on Thursday.
Tasked with making a cupcake using a vegetable, pupils Jennifer Collier and Eleanor Davidson’s rhubarb and custard cupcakes were rewarded with a gold award for first place.
Joanna Sherratt, a food technology teacher at the school said: “I was overwhelmed by the effort and enthusiasm all the competitors gave and the judges commended their talent.
“The whole event has been a complete success and we are very proud of the students who entered.”
The winners will get to cook with Great British Bake Off winner John Whaite on March 8 while all finalists will have their recipes published.
