A PREGNANT woman has been taken to hospital after a collision with a motorbike.

The pedestrian was knocked down by the silver Honda bike at around noon today in Whalley Road, Accrington.

The road was closed at the top of Owen Street to allow investigation work to take place.

It is not yet certain what injuries the woman suffered, but she has been taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital for checks.

It is understood she is around five months pregnant. An police officer is set to visit her in hospital to find out how the collision happened.

The motorcyclist is also being treated for a leg injury.

I hope this lady is ok, if this happened whilst trying to cross from corner of Owen Street as it sounds like I'm not surprised - the layout of the road makes it a difficult place to cross at the best of times & you need eyes in the back of your head - it doesn't help that there are almost always cars parked on Whalley Rd close to the corner of Owen Street & which block the view of pedestrians & drivers alike

Pedestrians cause many accidents because they just walk out into the road without looking or stopping.
I blame both sheer ignorance and stupidity on the part of the pedestrian, but also I blame the anti-car lobby who have brain-washed many people - specifically pedestrians and cyclists - into believing that cars are some kind of evil and anyone cycling or walking is a Good Person and " environmentally sound " and therefore always in the right.
This belief that you are right because you are Not Polluting will get you killed, irrespective of who has the right of way.

If you weren't there you cannot and should not speculate who was at fault. If you did see the incident you should be giving a witness statement to the police, not to a newspaper forum
