MEMBERS of 1st Golborne St Thomas’ Scouts are becoming experts on how to operate a defibrillator.

Defibrillators are vital in the first minutes after a person collapses and although most shops and community buildings have them - it is essential that there are members of the public around confident enough to operate these life saving machines.

The scout group were able to buy a defibrillator and mannequins, thanks in part to a donation of £500 from the Rotary Club of Leigh.

The training and practice will enable these young people to act when needed and to broaden the range of first aid skills at their disposal.

Vice President of Leigh Rotary, David Jones, said: “The scouting movement provides youngsters with wonderful opportunities to be of value to the community and to have a lot of fun in the process.”
