A GOLF pro has cycled from Lands End to John O’Groats in aid of Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

John Merry cycled 100 miles a day for eight days to complete the mammouth ride with his dad Frank as his support team to raise money for the Hindley hospice.

He said: “Parts of the second day were low because the conditions were tough with a headwind and rain but the high point was a downhill section in the Cairngorms that felt like it lasted forever.

“I rode alone, which I enjoyed because it allowed me to ride at my own pace but my dad supported me the whole way by means of food and drink and was there in case of any bike problems but I didn’t have any, not even a puncture.

“I could not have done it without his help.”

The 40-year-old who now lives in Formby but is from Hindley originally was helped by Hire N Hire in Leigh who gave him preferential rates on the hire of a van.
