A FORMER soldier is running the Manchester 10k in memory of his fallen colleagues - with a fridge full of beer strapped to his back.

Daniel Mitchell spent five years in the Grenadier Guards, completing tours in Bosnia and Iraq before leaving in 2007 for personal reasons.

The 28-year-old is now raising money for Help for Heroes in the hope of helping other service men and women.

Danny, who is now a store detective in Manchester, said: "The reason that I'm doing the 10K with a fridge strapped to my back is because during my time on operational tour all the lads used to talk about was having an ice cold beer back in the UK.

"So I'm filling the fridge with beer for anyone who would like one at the end of the run in memory of our fallen soldiers.

"I've been training three times a week for the run. My training consists of running 20k a week, and tabbing (walking) with the 60lb weight that I will be carrying on the day.

"Your donation will go towards helping hundreds of service men and women and any contribution is much appreciated."

Danny, of Pennington Road, Leigh, will run the 10k though Manchester city centre on May 18. To donate to Danny, visit www.bmycharity.com/Dannymitchell1985.
