DOG walkers are being urged to take care after firefighters were called to Pennington Flash to rescue a man.
A 34-year-old man had gone into water behind the flash after two dogs he was with who got into difficulty but he got stuck on an embankment.
Crews from Leigh Fire Station along with the Water Incident Unit from Eccles were called at 8.45pm on Thursday, April 10.
Firefighters waded out to the man and brought him to safety.
He was checked over by paramedics but declined hospital treatment.
Chair of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority Clr David Acton said: "Dog walkers need to be careful - our advice is to never go into water to attempt a rescue.
"This man was incredibly fortunate to be rescued, things could have been so much worse - water is often a lot colder than you expect and can impact on your physical capabilities.
"We don't want any more dog owners to get into difficulty around water as spring approaches so we would also advise owners to keep dogs on a lead to limit the risk."
