A MUM is supporting her son’s fundraising campaign by holding a charity night for him.

Cath Dickson has organised an evening of entertainment at Leigh Masonic Hall to help her son Adrian boost his donations for a bike ride he will take part in for Help for Heroes.

Adrian, aged 35, will complete the Big Battlefield Bike Ride from Brussels to London via Paris, a 350-mile ride, in June.

Cath, from Leigh, said: “Adrian has been in the Royal Air Force for 14 years and served in Afghanistan.

“He used to be a handler for the dogs used to find IEDs (improvised explosive devices). He has lost quite a few friends in action and known many more who have lost limbs.

“He decided to take part in the ride to help his colleagues – he put his name forward and luckily he was picked.”

Adrian, who now lives in Skeffington, Leicestershire, now trains recruits at the RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire.

The ride, which begins on June 1, is the biggest demonstration of support for the war wounded and a massive charity fundraising challenge organised by Help for Heroes.

The route takes participants, many of whom have lost limbs, through the battlefields of previous wars.

The Leigh event, on May 10, will include live music, a disco and a raffle from 7pm until 1am and tickets are £3 but must be bought in advance from Cath.
