NOT content with already having raised thousands of pounds for the Alzheimer’s Society, David Julien is at it again.

After cycling more than 1,000 miles from Leigh to Barcelona last year with friend Mark McKeever, The Voice UK contestant has set his sights on a new challenge.

This time, he and Mark will travel by canoe along the 60 mile Caledonian Canal in Scotland in July - but only after they have completed the three peaks challenge in 24 hours.

“We played with the idea of travelling by little sail boat from Ireland down to Portugal,” said the 25-year-old.

“But that was too big an adventure to complete for us being as un-skilled and inexperienced as we are. But we wanted to stick with the idea of water somehow.

“Then someone suggested we try to canoe the Caledonian Canal. But being the way we are, that was "too easy" so Mark suggested the three peaks too, as the final peak is over at Fort William in Scotland which is where the Caledonian Canal starts.”

The pair started their charity mission for the Alzheimer’s Society as both have grandparents who suffer from the condition and they hope to add another £500 to the £2,700 they raised last year.

David, who lives in Leigh and reached the quarter finals of the BBC singing competition in 2012, said: “I don't think much will be harder than the bike ride. That really did push me to the limit.

“The three peaks will be tough on our legs and feet then the canoeing will take its toll on our shoulders.

“Plus there is the element of capsizing and there has even been four meter high waves reported on Loch Ness. Oh and let’s not forget the relentless fly bites - apparently they will be in their millions. ”
