STAFF have continued to hand customers their prescriptions in Culcheth despite one man attempting to turn the Co-op pharmacy into a drive-through.

Two men have been arrested and charged after a car smashed into the building on Lodge Drive on Friday evening.

But employees did not let that stop them from doing their job on Monday.

Staff have been passing patients their medication through a boarded up door after customers were stopped from entering the chemist due to health and safety reasons.

A spokesman for the Co-operative Pharmacy said: “The branch has sustained substantial damage to its shop front following a car crash on Friday night.

“Staff are keen to help ensure local people can still access our services and we are continuing to dispense prescriptions and medication, although we unfortunately cannot allow customers into the branch because of the damage.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and we hope to have the branch repaired as soon as possible.”

It is not yet known when the chemist will fully re-open but the spokesman added staff will also be directing customers to other health services for additional support if they need it.

Witnesses to the crash said it was ‘by sheer good fortune’ nobody had been injured after police and fire crews were called at 9.10pm on Friday.

A Cheshire Fire spokesman said crews found the vehicle on its side but nobody had been trapped.

A Warrington East police spokesman later confirmed the driver and another man involved in the incident have been charged.

Michael Rose, aged 32, has been charged with drink driving, use of a vehicle without third party insurance, and driving without due care and attention.

Keith Stuart Perrie, aged 54, has been charged with use or a vehicle without third party insurance and aiding/abetting the use of a vehicle when alcohol is above the legal limit.

Both men, from Warrington, have been bailed and are due to appear at Halton Magistrates Court on May 29.
