AT the age of 82 former Wembley player, Harpenden FC coach, Channel swimmer and marathon runner Ron Fuller still likes to put something back into the game.

So he was made-up to pass on tips to players from the Butts Bridge based Canal Turn FC at a session arranged as part of Belong at Home, a domiciliary service operated from Belong retirement village in Mealhouse Lane, Atherton.

Sporting Ron’s proudest moment was as trainer of Harpenden the whole team joined him to run the London marathon.

Humble Ron said: "I want to thank all the players of Canal Turn FC for listening to me the way that they did. It felt great to put my coaching skills to good use again."

Born in Willesden, London in 1931, Ron was later transferred to Manchester by his employer, BAE Systems. He and his wife, Dorothy, share the same birthday and live in an apartment at Belong Atherton.

Claire Culshaw, Belong at Home Coordinator for Belong Atherton, said: "The team really took onboard what Ron was saying, and it was heartwarming to see the different generations coming together over a game of football.

"Ron has been using the Belong at Home service for over a year now, and it makes a big difference to his quality of life."

I'm the manager of this football team and I was so proud if my lads to let Ron so his stuff, he showed me some tips what I didn't even know so it was great to have someone down with a lot of experience.
