KEEN growers will compete for prizes in Wigan and Leigh Housing’s annual gardening competition.

The competition is open to all council tenants and estate residents and the competition is sponsored by Magnum Furniture, Moss Bank Nurseries, Breheny Security and Wigan Borough in Bloom.

Jo Bennett, tenant board member for Wigan and Leigh Housing and a member of the Better Neighbourhoods Group, said: “Well looked after gardens improve the look of every estate and this competition is designed to say thank you to the thousands of tenants and residents who help us make sure our estates are pleasant places to live.”

Prizes will be awarded to the best overall entry and for individual winners in the traditional, ornamental and communal garden classes, hanging basket and container garden and vegetable or fruit garden or allotment.

The allotment category is only open to current Wigan and Leigh Housing tenants.
