STUDENTS and staff at Lowton CE High School are busy preparing for this year’s fun day and strawberry fair.
The annual event, which takes place on July 6, promises to be bigger and better than ever with fairground rides, face-painting and lots of different stalls and activities.
There will also be the chance to try out some traditional arts and crafts with plenty of strawberries and other great things to eat on offer including a barbecue and a cake stall.
Head teacher John Shanahan said: “The fun day is our chance to throw open the school gates to everyone and celebrate the strong sense of community we have here in Lowton.
“It is also a celebration of the achievements of our young people and also the chance to help raise funds for the school and some other great causes.”
The fun day will play host to a seven-a-side football tournament in honour of former student Toby Hart, who was fatally injured after falling from a cliff on a family holiday to Cornwall in 2012.
As a tribute, Toby’s parents Graham and Sally set up the charity Toby’s Gift which raises money for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
Sally said: “Toby really enjoyed his time at Lowton and it is great for us to be able to keep the links with his school going through this event.
“The fun day is really popular and I know lots of Toby’s friends will be coming along to support us and the school.”
Entry to the event, which will run from 11am until 3pm, is free and for more information, visit lowtonhs.wigan.sch.uk or to run a stall call 01942 767040.
