TWO students from Wigan and Leigh College were named as runners up at a prestigious inter-college beauty competition.

Anna Dykins, aged 37, from Hindley Green and 42-year-old Alia Firdous, from Leigh, are both studying on the college’s Level 2 beauty course and competed in a Greater Manchester college’s competition.

The pair were selected to take part in the beauty category after winning an in-house competition against their fellow students at the Image Centre in Leigh.

Both impressed the judges on the day with Alia performing a facial treatment and Anna a manicure and were awarded second place.

Jacinta Price, beauty therapy lecturer at Wigan and Leigh College, said: “Our students really benefit from competitions like this as they are a perfect way to put into practise the things they have learned and to demonstrate their skills.

“We were really impressed by the standard of work displayed by Anna and Alia and would like to congratulate them on their achievements.”

Both students have already agreed to progress onto the College’s Level 3 course next year.
