LABOUR’S Shadow Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, Sadiq Khan MP visited Hindley Prison to meet Governor, Peter Francis and his staff.
Joined by Makerfield MP Yvonne Fovargue, the visit was an opportunity for Mr Khan to learn more about the work undertaken at the prison to assist in the rehabilitation of young offenders.
Hindley Prison has extensive safeguarding and child protection arrangements in place and a multi-disciplinary team to provide support and direction for young people during their time in custody.
Mr Khan MP said:“Rehabilitating young offenders is a tough but crucial job if we’re to keep communities safe and making sure those behind bars can go on to lead productive and fruitful lives on the straight and narrow.
“Getting inside Hindley with Yvonne and talking to staff and young offenders will give me a much better sense of what works and what doesn’t work.”
