A NEW piece of artwork has been installed in Howe Bridge.

Atherton Environmental Projects (AEP) applied for a grant from Wigan Councils Brighter Borough to hold a willow weaving day in Howe Bridge which was run by ECO-ARTS.

Expert willow weavers, Jeff and Heather Allen, showed people how to make items for their walls and gardens and created a figure of a miner with pick to be put on display in the village.

Chairman of AEP Keith Sumner said: “This is another reminder of the fantastic heritage of the area and particularly of the pit village of Howe Bridge.”

Volunteers from the award winning environmental group decided that the miner would stand on a site in the centre of the village near the Church of St Michael’s.
