APPRENTICE hairdressers from Wigan and Leigh College have raised £611 for charity.

More than 150 people attended Leigh Miners Welfare club to see level three students battle it out at the annual Hairdressing Apprentice Style Awards with all the proceeds donated to Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

The apprentices were tasked with creating a look around the theme of movies using hair design clothing and make up, helped by the college’s level three make up students.

Ashley Robinson was crowned as the overall winner for her Breakfast at Tiffany’s inspired look.

Katie Longshaw came in second for a look based on Moulin Rouge, while Emma Turner was third with a design inspired by The Butterfly Effect.

Senior tutor Maria Houghton, who organised the event, said: “I am enormously proud of all the students and the hairdressing team for all their dedication and enthusiasm.”

The Apprentice Style Awards were sponsored by Dennis Williams Hairdressing Supplies and Wella.
