MOTORCYCLES of all shapes and sizes headed down Astley Green for the LE Velocette Club's annual summer gathering at the mining museum off Higher Green Lane.
Stewart Parr captured the atmosphere on a sunny Sunday afternoon when he took a photograph of his pal Alan Davies, complete in dispatch rider gear aboard an ex-War Department 1940 Triumph 3SW 350cc, side valve single.
Another 'old soldier' looming in the background is Astley Green Colliery's towering headgear, saved from the scrapman when the pit closed in 1970, and now the last remaining full-size coal winding structure in Lancashire.
