AN investigation is under way after a derelict building caught fire in Accrington.

Two crews from Hyndburn fire station were alerted to the blaze at a property in Hood Street by concerned neighbours at 8.30pm on Saturday.

Crew manager Andy Pennington said it was possible that the fire was started deliberately.

He said: “It was well wlight when we got there and it took four people in breathing apparatus an hour-and-a-half to put it out.

“It’s being investigated as there was quite a bit of damage to the stairs and part of the upstairs, which was heavily smoke-logged.”

Nobody was in the house at the time.
