A FESTIVAL organised to celebrate ecology through art has had a second chance at success.

The AFN (Arts for Nature) Festival was finally held after the original event had to be cancelled due to bad weather.

The Friends of Atherton Wildlife and Nature (FAWN) were able to hold the event after Atherton Cricket Club allowed them to tag on to its annual fun day.

Festival co-ordinator Jayne Seddon said: “The day was a great success, and really rewarding to see so many families and young people engaging in their natural environment through creative action.

“It was a collision of cultures as international artists performed at Atherton Cricket Club.

“The community spirit was evident as we pulled together to celebrate the valuable biodiversity of our green space.”

Greater Manchester Local Record Centre led wildlife walks on the day while art workshops encouraged children to draw and map what they had seen.

Artist Phoebe Myers painted bird houses with the children to make a bird house estate on Bee Fold Lane and FAWN member Heather Norton encouraged children and adults to help make an Earth Loom by weaving plants, grasses, and flowers together.

The day was also filled with musical performances from band Acoustic Traditions, Jacob G Lee and band Green Army.
