A MAN accused of manslaughter appeared for the first time at Liverpool Crown Court today, Wednesday.

William Lynch, of Morseby Close, Leigh, is accused of unlawfully killing 62-year-old Derek Alexander Szostok.

Mr Szostok was found badly injured at an address in Moresby Close - near to where he lived - in the early hours of August 26.

He was taken to hospital but doctors were unable to save him and he died four days later.

A post-mortem examination conducted by a Home Office pathologist has since concluded that he died from an injury called a flexation of the neck.

Lynch, aged 41 appeared via video link from Walton Prison and was further remanded in custody until December 22 when he is due to enter his plea.

A date for his trial was fixed to begin on February 23.
