A MAN has been robbed at knifepoint in Tyldesley.

The 32-year-old victim was waiting for a taxi at the junction of Clarence Street and Tyldesley Old Road when he was approached by a man with a scarf covering the bottom half of his face.

Pointing a knife at the victim, the offender demanded cash and grabbed the victim’s wallet at around 1am on Sunday, October 12.

The man then ran off in the direction of Atherton town centre, before turning down an alleyway towards fields at the rear of St Anne’s Church.

The offender is described as black, around 25-29 years old and 5ft 7in to 5ft 9in tall with a stocky build, short dark hair and a local accent.

He was wearing all dark clothing, dark gloves and wore a dark scarf over the bottom half of his face.

Det Con Lynsey Watson said: “The victim was understandably fearful during the attack, during which he felt the point of the knife held against his side as he fumbled for his wallet.

“The offender has used fear and intimidation to get what he wanted, and we have to assume that if he was willing to threaten the victim with this knife that he was also willing to use it if challenged.

“We would like to ask people to contact police on the number below if they believe they saw a man meeting this description in the area near the time of the robbery.”
