A GROUP of men are on the last leg of their journey to help a fellow slimmer train for a charity ride.

Royston Brett will be cycling from Blackpool Tower to the Eiffel Tower in Paris in January to raise money for a number of charities and to warm up he has been stationed in Leigh Spinning Gate all week to cover the same distance on a spinning bike.

And to help him complete the 600-mile cycle and a 21-mile row across the channel, he has been joined by fellow participants and lifestyle coaches from Trim Down Shape Up, Wigan Council’s weight management programme, as well as passers-by in the centre.

Royston has completed several charity bike rides since he lost 12.1kg on the programme but this will be the furthest to date.

He said: “It is going to be a tough ride, especially since the weather may not be that great in January, but I’m determined to complete it.

“It is all for a good cause and each of these charities deserve every penny I am able to raise.”

Royston will be raising money for the Guide Dogs for the Blind and Prostate Cancer UK through the practice ride as well as the ride in January when he will be fundraising for brain injury charity Headway and Wipe Your Tears which provide financial support to parents with children in hospital.

He will also be riding via Parliament in London where he is hoping to meet Andy Burnham to ask for Parliament to do more to strengthen the law around the control of dangerous dogs.

Royston has been at Leigh Spinning Gate all this week. Any men wanting to join the programme but are unable to attend the event can register by calling 01942 496496.
