A COMMUNITY group has raised thousands of pounds for Wigan and Leigh Hospice by walking 15 miles.

The team from Leigh Community Group of 13 collected money along the route of a seven and a half hour walk from the children’s hospice Derian House in Chorley to the hospice in Hindley.

In total they raised £2,103 which will be split between the two charities.

Fundraiser Tonia Bridden said: “At first it was pouring down and then we got lost and ended up walking 15 miles instead of 11. When you do it in the car you don’t realise how many hills there are.

“We got lost and ended up on the A6 so people couldn’t really stop to make a donation but they pipped their horns so it was nice to get that support. "Some people were stopping in the parking bays and waiting for us so they could give us a donation.”
