A MAN has been banned from the Chat Moss pub in Glazebury after waving a metal bar at police when drunk.

David Mullen, aged 32, of Hurst Street, Leigh, was arrested after Cheshire Police officers were called to the pub.

Halton Magistrates Court heard on Friday how Mullen was found close by on Warrington Road at around 1.50am.

He was holding a metal bar but after police him to put it down he started 'screaming and swearing'.

The court heard Mullen walked towards the officers, eventually dropping the bar, but the defendant refused to calm down and was arrested.

Mullen, who has previous convictions for battery, theft and criminal damage, pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon and being drunk and disorderly.

The court heard the self-employed painter and decorator, who works six days a week, remembers 'little' about the incident.

Magistrates sentenced Mullen to a three month electronic curfew, and told him to pay court costs.
