GYMNASTS have been putting their skills to the test against other primary schools.

The Key Steps Gymnastics Competition, part of the National School Games programme saw 200 primary school gymnasts compete at Lowton CE High School.

The winning teams and individuals will now represent Wigan at the Greater Manchester Winter School Games in March.

Each gymnast had to perform a floor work routine, a body management routine and a vault.

Lowton CE High School donated the use of their sports facilities all day and provided twenty five young leaders to assist with the running of the event.

Lesley McGreevy, school games organiser for Wigan East, said: “The School Games is a national programme delivered locally here in Leigh that aims to encourage all young people to be active and enjoy sport and physical activity.

“Gymnastics is one of the many sports on offer that young people can participate in at a school level, at a local club or represent the borough at Greater Manchester.”
